The History of Heslerton

We believe our villages of East and West Heslerton are very special and contain some real gems.  Situated between our villages, which straddle the main road between York and the coast (A64), is one of Europe’s most important archaeological sites, which is helping to bring to life the lives of people who have lived and worked here for many thousands of years. We’re small but beautifully formed! Don’t just pass us by – drop in and take a look.

Heslerton

Our villages lay below the Yorkshire Wolds Way long distance path, with some spectacular views across the Vale of Pickering towards the North Yorks Moors.  We enjoy easy access to the coast, with the fabulous seaside towns of Scarborough and Filey just over 15 miles away.  Travelling west lies Malton which is a flourishing market town, fast developing a reputation as the ‘food capital’ of Yorkshire.

Living here, our parish life is enriched through many amenities.  Our local primary school (http://www.heslerton.n-yorks.sch.uk/) has an excellent reputation and was classed as ‘outstanding’ in its latest Ofsted report.

The Dawnay Arms, serving home-cooked food, is a popular pub in the area, and there are frequent activities in the main village hall in West Heslerton.

There is a thriving Sports Club, with excellent facilities, offering adult and junior cricket and football, together with a bowls club.  St Andrew’s church in East Heslerton is an interesting Grade 1 listed building, and All Saints in West Heslerton is part-13th century, and has regular services.  The Centenary Way also runs just to the south of our parish.
